DASAVATHARAM tells about "Chaos Theory"

Dear Friends,

I assume most of the ppl out there complaining that there is no story in "DASAVATHARAM"
The article below says that Kamal regards his fans highky and as such he is obligated to present a film deserved for the intellectuals. :-)

I admit that there are few scenes could be improved but the whole picture brings the Indian Cinema to international level!

I have enjoyed watching the movie (3 times)

Tamilanai tamilan than paaratta vendum!! :-)

Subject: MI CLUB: Chaos Theory-must read!FAQ'S ON DASAVATHARAM

Some guys have claimed they haven't understood chaos theory which plays such an important part in the film. As a physics student, I've decided to explain it a bit so that people can appreciate the brilliance of the film. What is Chaos?

Basically a chaotic system is one wherein long term predictions are impossible. Like for example, if I push a car, I know that it is going to move and it will continue to do so if I go on pushing it on and on. However, in a chaotic system, this situation cannot be predicted over a long period of time. Weather, for example, is a chaotic system. No matter how good your instruments are, you simply cannot predict the weather with 100 per cent accuracy over a long term basis and forecast it.

What is the Butterfly Effect? It is the most important component of a chaotic system. Basically, small perturbations results in amplifications which completely destroys the original nature of the system and makes prediction impossible. If a butterfly flaps its wings in Africa, it could result in a cyclone in USA.(Mark the word COULD.) A highly dumbed down explanation of the butterfly effect is in the film Anniyan, where Vikram's sister dies because a liquor shop owner sells liquor on a dry day.

OK, how does Dasa incorporate it?In essence, Dasa talks about eight characters who are inconsequential as such, but are integrated in a larger picture.. Without Bush, the plane would have been called back. Without Shinghen, Govind would be dead. Without the tsunami, the world would have been destroyed. Even Krishnaveni (the old woman) plays a very important role. If she had not put the vial in the idol, maybe Govind would have recovered it then and there and a powerful weapon would have been unleashed. The very fact that it went into the idol meant that it was being accelerated to its destiny. Without Kaifulllah Khan, Govind would have never escaped... the list simply goes on.

OK, so does the film talk about theism or atheism?Neither. It talks about how humans drive the destiny of the world. The idol that is drowned in the sea along with Rangarajan in 12th century by Chozha king results in a fault being developed at the bottom of the ocean and creates tremors more than 800 years later. These tremors result in the Tsunami. This again is a classic case of Butterfly Effect wherein a seemingly inconsequential event (the drowning of the idol) saves Tamil Nadu from being wiped off the face of the earth.

Now tell me, does THIS movie lack a story? This movie has the most beautiful story ever attempted in Indian cinema. Unfortunately, Indian viewers and critics are obsessed with the 'boy meets girl' and 'revenge' themes, so they fail to see the story in this master piece.-- Chaos Theory

Cool..Thanks for Mr. Akilan. I just understood about this Chaos Theory and how the relate it to this story. Even I don't understand the basic theory, I watched this movie for four time in third day of release. It's not because I'm a hard core Kamal Fan, but I really like the story flow and the efford that Kamal put in this movie. But what to do, my makkal alway can't accept anything new in tamil films.

For those who don't understand, may be Mr. Akilan's explainatio n will help them. For those who never understand, just leave them in their way. For those who says Dasavatharan is a failure, its may be true if you look at the sales and profits that it makes. Because Cinema is a business and who makes money, he is the winner here. But acting is not a business but a talent. So Kamal never a fails as an actor, and no one beats him also. He just proofed it in Dasavatharam.

Bravo and well said.
I am not a physics student. But I think I am smart enough to understand what was the movie about. There was an element of education in it and it is indeed the greatest movie that Tamil Cinema industry had produced. This clearly shows that Kamal regards his fans highky and as such he is obligated to present a film deserved for the intellectuals.
Unfortunately many viewers does not want to upgrade themselves to be an elit. They are still accustomed to the old cinema where there is a song and the hero chases heroine, marriage, children etc, etc.
So Mr.Akilan, we have to get the facts right first. Intelligence is scarce. Entertainment is abundant.

Hujah pemimpin negara yang membodohkan rakyat

1.Harga minyak terpaksa dinaikkan ekoran harga minyak di peringkat antarabangsa melambung
tinggi.

Kenapa pula Malaysia perlu sakit. Sedangkan Malaysia negara pengeluar minyak bukan pengimport minyak.

3. Minyak di Singapura lebih mahal daripada Malaysia.

Singapura bukan negara pengeluar minyak.

5. Ucapan lidah bercabang pemimpin negara, kesian rakyat kerana minyak naik. Ucapan hanya
hendak menyejuk hati rakyat.

8. Kenyataan pemimpin Umno yang hendak membodohkan rakyat supaya jangan marah apabila
minyak naik.

"Kita bimbang sekiranya minyak murah rakyat tak cermat dan minyak akan kurang,"kata Perdana Menteri.

"Belanja secara berhemah,"kata Datin Rosmah Mansur.

"Ubah gaya hidup...membazir Islam marah,"kata Dato' Seri Najib.

Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim sewaktu minyak naik 30 sen dulu dia suruh pegawai kerajaan naik basikal.

Saya hendak cadangkan supaya pemimpin Umno-BN ambil cermin suluh muka baru boleh nasihat rakyat.

Inilah rupa pemimpin yang memerintah negara kita hari ini. Ya Allah selamatkanlah negara. - mks. _

MIC (Malaysian Indian Congress) re-branding...(semma comedy)

RM 500,000 will be spent on new uniform, new logo and letterhead. Does it make any sense? This is not a product re-branding process. If the uniform is changed, does it means MIC has change? What is the point by changing the cloths, when people inside the cloths still the same.

Changing the logo doesnt mean anything, people do not join a party or support by viewing the logo. If the logo is new, many youngster will join? Please la. It shows your lacking of idea again. Wont you learn a lesson from previous events Dr.Semi Value?

The best part is, changing letterhead. There is no point in changing letterhead while the party’s head is still the same person. What, do MIC think that Indian people is stupid and blind? We all know this trick Mr. Semi Value. By changing uniform, logo and letterhead, you are not changing anything. You said it is done to attract more youth to join? Please wake up, todays youth not like your time, when you give new cloths, money, drinks etc.. they will follow you. That time has vanished since November 25 2007.

Here what we need, Not new Uniform, but new leader to wear that Uniform! Not new logo, A new leader who can help their community. Logo doesnt mean anything! Not new letterhead, but new President name in that letterhead. We are bored with your MIC, its always about you, not the public!

You want to re-brand? Tell us what happened to MAIKA holding. Tell us that Indian student will get scholarship to aid their education (i mean indian students, not your ketua bahagian’s son or doughter or their reletives!!! we seek of it)

Tell us that all Indian in Malaysia will be treated equally as other races! Can you?

Please dont waste the RM 500,000. Use it to aid those people who really need it. Atleast people will try to believe what you are saying. Dont waste the money!

Dasavatharam rates slashed

Behindwoods has reported that "Dasavatharam" will be screened in theatres on 6 June 2008. I have waited for this movie past 10 months! Dasavatharam will be another mile stone in Tamil film industry. I am expecting more and more excellent movies from our legendary Ulaga Nayagan@Ulaga Maha Nyani Dr.Kamal Hassan!

By Behindwoods News Bureau.

Dasavatharam, the magnum opus of Kamal Haasan is all set to hit the theatres on the 6th of June. The film is getting released simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Producer Aascar (formerly Oscar) Ravichandran is in a buoyant spirit. At the initial stage one thousand prints are getting released and as a means to draw more crowds and generate

good business at the C centres, a hefty amount has been reduced there. This strategy has been viewed as a positive trend by the trade pundits.

While discussing about the film Ravichandran states, “The duration of the film is for three hours and the film has been shot in eight overseas locations which includes America, Japan, Malaysia and United Kingdom. In India the film was shot in Tamil Nadu, Mumbai, Hyderabad and many other places”. He further adds that Dasavatharam has spine-tingling action sequences which include airplane chasing and also a car chasing which is sure to bring joy to all action buffs. The shooting was completed in 280 days while Kamal had worked for thirty months for this film. As a lavish producer, he has spent 6 crores for advertisement alone for Dasavatharam.
On 30th May, a special screening has been scheduled for honorable Chief Minister Karunanidhi who is said to have expressed his desire to view this film. On Kamal’s ten avatars, Ravichandran says that around twenty days have been utilized to shoot the portion of every single avatar of Kamal. Ravi seems to have been awestruck by Kamal’s dedication and says that his intelligence is equal to that of one hundred IAS officers. On a signing note, he says that a 1962 verdict of Supreme Court indicated that if a film has been certified by censor board and in the event of problems arising during its release, Government should provide adequate protection during its screening. Hence he does not fear any untoward incident during the release of Dasavatharam.

Dasavatharam taken to court!
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
May 07, 2008

The controversy surrounding the release of the much-anticipated film Dasavatharam turned ugly with a Hindu organization filing a petition at the court. According to the complainant, the film consists of scenes that depict the conflict between the Saivites and Vaishnavites. It is also alleged that

Dasavatharam

Dasavatharam contains scenes that disregard the Hindu religion. Furthermore, there are scenes that show the idols of Gods and Goddesses being thrown.

The Division Bench comprising of Justices Sathyanarayanan and Rajasuriya has sought an explanation in this regard and ordered to issue notices to producer Oscar Ravichandran, director K.S. Ravikumar and the Censor Board seeking explanation. Meanwhile, Ocsar Ravichandran has issued a statement that there are no such scenes that would hurt the sentiments of Hindus. In fact, the film will play a pivotal role in converting an atheist into a theist, he reassured.

My Trip to India: by Jackie Chan

The Real Story (April 27, 2008)
April 27, 2008 Source: Jackie Chan Blog

I have just returned from the most amazing and wonderful trip to Chennai, India, where I went to attend the audio launch of Oscar Films’ upcoming movie Dasavatharam.

I should tell you that Oscar Films is responsible for distributing my films in India and has been doing this for over twenty years, since Battle Creek Brawl. It’s because of them that I’m so well known in India and they are very old friends of mine. A few months ago, Mr. Ramesh Babu from Oscar Films and Mr. Vikram Lamba, brother of my Myth screen companion Mallika Sherawat, came to Hong Kong to personally invite me to this function. At the time, I looked at my schedule and winced. I was booked almost every day in April in Beijing, doing public service announcements and other events for the Olympics. How in the world would I fit in a trip to India? But I was so touched by their sincerity, and missed India so much (it’s been three years since The Myth) that I shifted things around so that I could squeeze in a very short trip.

As I told you, the purpose of the Chennai trip was to attend the music launch of Oscar Films’ latest production, Dasavatharam. In Indian films, the music is a very important part of the production, and these events are quite extravagant. The organizers had also added a fund-raising element to it, and I was there to present a check to the charity organizers.

Oscar Films was extremely generous in providing me with everything I could possibly need on this trip. Since I was only going to be in Chennai for about twenty-four hours, I didn’t think that anyone would know of my arrival and I was completely overwhelmed when I arrived at Chennai airport. So many fans and friends came to greet me, and it was at that moment I knew this would be the beginning of an amazing trip.

The premiere event was incredible. I saw so many friendly people, and so many famous faces! Many stars of Indian cinema were there and I recognized their faces, but I didn’t know how to pronounce their names (you know I’m much better with faces than with names). I was surprised and happy that so many people seemed to know me and wanted to talk to me. Oscar Films obviously did a great job promoting and distributing my previous films! I was really overwhelmed and I did my best to talk to as many people as possible. I hope I didn’t offend anyone by not giving them enough attention.

The movie, Dasavatharam, is truly a sight to behold. The story, directing, acting, camera work, special effects, everything about it is amazing. It really opened my eyes to modern Indian cinema. Of course I had seen Indian films before; I admire many of the actors, and really like the music and dancing. But this movie is really something else. Every element was amazing to me; and all the elements together just made a perfect and incredible movie! I won’t spoil anyone’s surprise by revealing the story now, since I think everyone should watch this movie. But I will say two things: watch for the environmental message, and all you directors in Hong Kong and China, watch this movie and start working harder than ever, because very soon now, Indian cinema will overtake us in the eyes of the international audience!

Because of my busy schedule, I had to leave Chennai the same night, after the event ended. I arrived in Beijing early the next morning and imagine my surprise when I was greeted with, “We heard it didn’t go too well; are you okay?” I honestly had no idea what everyone was talking about. I’d had such a thrilling and interesting trip and everything had gone quite smoothly.

When I saw some of the news reports on the Internet, I was extremely upset. One article accused me of ridiculous things like refusing to drink India’s bottled water – they said I brought my own imported mineral water - and of traveling with my own personal chefs because I refuse to eat Indian food. There were also reports of my so-called offensive behavior, dismissing the Indian stars and not talking to anyone. What complete nonsense! I have nothing but respect for Indian culture and Indian cinema, and even though I may not know all the stars by name or how to properly pronounce the names of the ones I do know, this has nothing to do with my admiration for them. And saying that I won’t eat Indian food! Nothing could be further from the truth; I adore Indian food, and in fact had two excellent meals on this trip and was so full I could barely leave my seat!

To the reporters who wrote those offensive articles, I say this: You say I brought my own water. What brand did I bring? You can find out from the housekeepers at the hotel whether I did such a thing. You say I refused to eat Indian food. Do your research and talk to the three butlers the hotel assigned to my room and ask them what I ate! You say I holed up in my air-conditioned hotel room, ignoring my hosts. Why would I travel all the way to India and refuse to leave my hotel room?

I’ve been in the public eye for many years and I have put up with a lot of ridiculous things written about me. I very seldom lash out at anyone. But truly, these irresponsible “reporters” spoiled the memory of my trip, and I am so afraid that when my gracious and wonderful hosts read the lies, they may get the complete wrong impression of me and my feelings about them and about the event. Therefore, I am posting this message on my website immediately to set the record straight.

While I am on the topic of irresponsible journalism, some reporters recently asked me about my participation in the Olympic torch relay. I jokingly answered that no one had better try to come near me while I’m carrying the torch. I said it as a joke, and believe me, I made it quite clear that I was fooling around. I have tremendous faith in the security measures being taken. The next day there were news reports all over the world saying things like “Jackie Chan Threatens Olympic Protestors” and “Kung Fu Star Will Chop Down Protestors.” It seems that everywhere in the world there will be rotten apples that spoil the good ones in the barrel.

I hope this has cleared things up and that my gracious and generous Indian hosts and all of my fans and friends will be reassured that I had a lovely and memorable trip.

Malaysian Gov't to subsidise rice price

Mr.Ministar, please you should give us more clearer picture/explanation about your statement that "Shahrir urged Malaysians to change their eating habits to cut the impact of rising rice prices.”We have to see changes in lifestyle among Malaysians to accommodate this economic situation," he said"

Rice is most important item of Malaysian citizens. Do you mean that we should eat less rice due price hike in the market?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gov't to subsidise rice price
Apr 28, 08 4:24pm

The government will subsidise the soaring price of rice to ensure the staple food remains affordable for consumers, minister in charge of consumer affairs said today amid global concern about high food prices.

"At the moment there is no rice subsidy... But that will come in the future," Shahrir Abdul Samad, the domestic trade and consumer affairs minister, told reporters at parliament house when asked if Malaysia would provide one.

The minister added that "we can at least assure the lower income group that local rice will be made available to them at affordable prices."

Countries across Asia are grappling with rapid increases in food costs, which experts say threaten many of the region's poor with hunger.

Prices of popular grades of rice in Malaysia are up substantially. One local brand spiked by 26 percent last week.

Shahrir urged Malaysians to change their eating habits to cut the impact of rising rice prices. "We have to see changes in lifestyle among Malaysians to accommodate this economic situation," he said.

Better farming methods

Agriculture minister Mustapa Mohamed said Malaysia would try to increase local rice production through better farming methods.

"Our priority now is to concentrate on the immediate term. There is a need for the use of more fertilisers and we need to buy farming equipment to increase yields and productivity," he said.

Malaysia produces some 1.6 million tonnes of rice, which meets 70 percent of domestic consumption. The balance is imported from neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam.

A local consumer hailed the plan to provide a rice subsidy.

"All the types of rice I am familiar with have gone up since last week. It is hurting my pocket," said housewife Siti Nora.

He said that this is the fourth film in which he is collaborating with the 'kamaal' named Kamal and this will be the best ever film till date from the Oscar banner. Producer Oscar V. Ravichandran and his brother V. Sridhar also spoke at length about how happy they are to be associated with this project. Oscar V. Ravichandran donated Rs. five lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This cheque was handed over by Jackie Chan to the CM.
