CALL US MALAYS, SAY INDIAN MUSLIM YOUTH - GEPIMA
I was utterly shocked and disgusted after reading the news entitled " CALL US MALAYS, SAY INDIAN MUSLIM YOUTH".
Some excerpts are as follows:
GEPIMA's president Mohamed Kader Ali claims that Members of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Youth Movement (GEPIMA) want to be known as Malays and not Indians. We feel uncomfortable to be known as Indians, because people automatically think we are Hindus when we are actually Muslims. Kader added that Muslims of Indian origin suffered an inferiority complex by being regarded as Indians. Our children do not even know how to speak Tamil. They only converse in Malay and our wives wear baju kurung or kebaya nowadays, no more the saree".
First of all, if we call ourselves an intellectual being who are highly educated and full of wisdom, we need to do some research first before making some silly remarks that will make an intellectual person cringe with shame over a completely uncalled for remarks. For the benefit of all, below is the definition of race and religion since intellectual people don't seem to be able to differentiate a religion from a race:
race (PEOPLE) noun [C or U]
a group, especially of people, with particular similar physical characteristics, who are considered as belonging to the same type, or the fact of belonging to such a group:
group noun [C]
a group of people who share the same language, history, characteristics, etc:LITERARY The British are an island race.
1 [C or U] the belief in and worship of a god , or any such system of belief and worship:
Friends, every Malaysian is working so hard towards tolerance and mutual respect, and here comes an highly intellectual person with such silly remarks! How would you describe such a person? I have a question for the Honorable President of GEPIMA. Would you call a black who have had two generations living in Malaysia and following Islam, a Malay? Would you call a Chinese who have had two generations living in Malaysia and following Islam, a Malay? Would they feel inferior if they refer to themselves as Chinese or Africans? If you were to live in US and profess a local religion will you become a Mat Salleh? And if Iyou were to live for two generations in China and profess a local religion, will you become a Chinese? Will you then have the inferiority complex?
The best part is, he says that the Muslim youths are feeling inferior because they are regarded as Indians, may I ask the Honorable President what are they actually? I wonder based on what scientific research has the Honorable President concluded that people automatically think they are Hindus if we refer to them as Indians? He must have done some very extensive market research to come to his great findings.... .Any cultured person who come in contact with someone will actually ask if he is not sure, they do not assume as the honorable President claims
My special request to a person who is holding such an esteemed post. Why don't you trace your roots and see where it leads you? Are you saying that you are ashamed of your roots and your ancestors? Well, Mr. President, no one can change the History and plese Mr. President don't embarass yourself with such mind boggling remarks that has no place in current highly intellectual environment. Think before you speak! Don't let people laugh at your ignorance. I don't think any educated person with any sense would actually agree with you.
And Mr. President, I have recently attended a Muslim wedding and the women are still wearing sarees for your information. Please get your facts right!
